See How A Goblin Is Made Here For Styx: Shards Of Darkness

Styx

A new developer diary for Styx: Shards Of Darkness shows off a bit more of the game as well as how Styx has been evolved since the last game and beyond

If Styx: Shards Of Darkness will be your first foray with this little goblin then A, you are missing out, and B, you need a crash course in who this little goblin is and how he has been crafted for the game and how he has evolved since. It would be odd if Cyanide Studios left him in the past and didn't use all of the new hardware and game to further show off this amazing character and while they are odd, they are not that odd. This is why we have a new developer diary of sorts to show off Styx in his new light as well as to get to know his personality a bit more and just to enjoy another great IP that is coming out of Focus Home Interactive. Now that the date of March 14th has been set, we need to get to know him a bit better…

So, Styx is a wisecracking, "foul mouthed," little goblin who does a few things well. Mainly just steals and kills but he also has a few other tricks up his sleeves so as to not be a one trick pony. More or less if you are familiar with Deadpool, you know the character. You just need to take away a bit of the whole sexual side of things and that is about on par. I'm not saying he is a rip-off, but there are a lot of similarities and in Styx: Shards Of Darkness it looks like they are getting played up even more. Especially with the fourth wall breaking and silly puns while doing some horrible things to men who are out to keep their families fed and clothed. Won't someone think of those NPCs?!?

Styx: Shards Of Darkness — Making Of A Goblin

You’ll learn why Styx is not the kind of character you're used to playing, and how his wits outweigh his weaknesses. As a goblin, direct confrontation is the best way to kick the bucket, so you’ll have to study your environment to find the best approach and tools to overcome your enemies.

Discover how this “ugly little green character” adapts to your playstyle, as “you can be the guy that goes in and out through the level getting every item, or the sneaky one who never raises any alarm.” Take advantage of Styx’s acrobatic prowess and rain down from above, or use your tools and abilities to totally avoid detection – it’s entirely up to you. No matter how you play, he’ll be there for the entire journey, criticizing not only the player, but his creators too!

If you played the first game you can easily see how well the character has progressed in Styx: Shards Of Darkness. Not only that, but it looks like the character models and animations have been kicked up a major degree here as it looks truly spectacular for a current gen title. Granted, these are all portions of the game that Cyanide Studios have looked to have pre-rendered but still even the gameplay up to now shows that they have taken care to continue this little guy's adventures and stories right along. If I wasn't already excited for Styx: Shards Of Darkness this would have definitely done the job. Now to wait a few more weeks until the game can finally be in our hands…

What do you think about the character and how he looks now in Styx: Shards Of Darkness? Do you see the easy comparisons between him and Deadpool or has my love of both characters just blended it all together? Do you think that the canned animations will get boring in the final game or will there be enough variants to keep it feeling fresh even on the hundredth time you hear and see it? Let us know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss as you wish. For more on Styx: Shards Of Darkness as we get closer to the launch, be sure to stay right here. We will have it and you will want it. I know you will.
