Here's A Red Dead Redemption Update But Not Exactly What We Hoped For

Red Dead Redemption

The latest game to hit the Xbox One backwards compatibility program is Red Dead Redemption and it doesn't matter which version of Red Dead Redemption you own to have access

Leading up to E3 and well before that we had a lot of "leaks" and news about something related to Red Dead Redemption coming soon. A lot of us thought that this was all to lead up to Rockstar Games announcing a sequel to the original title but as that time has come and gone it looks like we'll have to wait longer. What we won't have to wait for is the original Red Dead Redemption to hit the Xbox One as Take-Two Interactive is allowing it to head to the system via the backwards compatibility program that has been set up. Although I would have mentioned this a little sooner as the game will be available on July 8th on the system.

While this may not be the exact news we were all waiting for, it doesn't make it any less true and coming. The better news behind all of this though is the fact that it doesn't matter which version of the game you picked up before on the Xbox 360 to get access via the program. All three bits for Red Dead Redemption will give you access to the original game on the Xbox One and for those who don't own any of those just yet you will also be able to pick it up on the same day digitally. Good news all around for those who miss playing RDR and just want to have another chance to play it on the current gen systems.

Red Dead Redemption on Xbox One Backward Compatibility Coming Friday, July 8th

Starting on Friday, every Red Dead Redemption Xbox 360 owner will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own (Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare, or Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition). And for those who have yet to experience it, the game will be available to purchase on Friday from the Games Store on Xbox One.

Of course you came here hoping to see something on Red Dead Redemption 2 of some sorts given everything we've seen and heard from before. I personally think this is a good sign that Rockstar Games is still dedicated to bringing it and hopefully this is the buildup. Why else would they rehash this title to come to the backwards compatibility if they didn't have plans to bring another new title to the Xbox One? Or even the Scorpio based on the timeline they may be looking at. It makes sense to me to make sure that if a Red Dead Redemption 2 was brought to market that the fan-base was even larger than before. This is the easy way to do it here.

How happy are you to see that Red Dead Redemption is coming to the Xbox One via this program? Did you think that it was inevitable or was it something you were expecting a huge package "remaster" to do? Do you think that this is a precursor to a possible sequel being announced soon? Let us know what you are thinking and discuss in the comments below. As we get more on the Red Dead Redemption franchise in any way we will have it here. Be sure to stay right here on the site so you don't miss out on a single thing.
