Late last month we had a look at the next big DLC for Dying Light titled the The Following. Up until Gamescom all we had were little tidbits based off screenshots and brief descriptions from Techland and nothing else. The big knowns about the next big Dying Light DLC was that it would have a map larger than anything we've played before, it was going to be story-based DLC, and that we would be getting dirt buggies to roll around the maps and mow down zombies with. That has been about it and Warner Bros. hasn't been any level of helpful to give us anything more…that is until now. You knew that was coming here for Dying Light. Don't deny it.
There is still no release date or window for Dying Light: The Following but it does look like it is going to be $14.99 USD when it finally does land; and that is only for those who don't hold a Dying Light Season Pass as it will be included in that. By Grabthar's hammer… what a savings. At least for those who have happened to have purchased the Season Pass when Dying Light first launched. Then again with a new area the size of ALL of the current landscape in the game; as long as the new story bits for Dying Light make wandering it a joy then that is a hell of a savings for anyone who buys The Following on its own.
Speaking of story, as this is the only other item that has been talked about by Techland here for Dying Light, it looks like we are getting a huge new story for Dying Light's protagonist Kyle Crane. I won't paraphrase it for you but I'll give you the full description for Dying Light's story in the DLC right from the horse's mouth. Not only that but I'll give you a new trailer to show off all the goods in action for Dying Light. At least when The Following finally lands a release date.
Dying Light: The Following will see Kyle Crane travel to a hazardous outback ruled by mysterious and fanatical cultists whose beliefs have unnerving connections with the zombie outbreak.
To get close to the cult and unravel their secrets, players will need to earn the trust of the locals. Through various missions and tasks, players will be able to choose their own path for infiltrating the inner circles of the cultists. In order to succeed in this harsh countryside, players will also gain access to fully customizable and upgradable dirt buggies. With its own unique skill tree, players will be able to traverse the vast expanse of the Harran countryside in what is their deadliest weapon yet.
Dying Light — The Following
Now that you know more for Dying Light: The Following what do you think of it? Does it add well to the entire Dying Light experience or is it just another grab to keep us playing the game a bit longer until Techland can pump out their next title? Do you think this is going to be prequel-like story DLC or is it going to expand further on the based story of Dying Light? Let us know and discuss down in the comments. Hopefully we will get a release date for The Following from Warner Bros. in short order, especially since it was playable at Gamescom, but nothing yet. Be sure to keep checking in here often for all things Dying Light as I am sure we will hear something real soon.
