Hot off the announcement of the Dual Play feature in Batman: Arkham Knight comes an announcement for a DLC season pass for the game. Not too big of a surprise for Warner Bros. and Rocksteady to include this into the mix of Arkham Knight additions as DLC seems to keep the money flowing after the main title is released. Weirdly though, this season pass structure sound like it defines out that there will be a six month period of DLC coming to the game on a regular basis. I only say weirdly as most Season Passes include any and all DLC that could come out so either this pass only covers until the end of 2015 or Rocksteady doesn't plan on having anything new for Batman: Arkham Knight as we move into 2016.
Enough of the semantics and planning here. The better question is what does the Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass look to hold? From the official press release for it looks like there will be more story missions, more super-villains added in, and then the standard skins and challenge maps that are easy cash grabs. I know if I were Rocksteady I would gladly take the extra $40 for this season pass just to give you a few extra skins to play the core game with even though they don't change Batman: Arkham Knight's gameplay at all…
The Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass will deliver regular new content for six months post-launch including new story missions, additional super-villains invading Gotham City, legendary Batmobile skins, advanced challenge maps, alternative character skins, and new drivable race tracks. The Batman: Arkham Knight Premium Edition includes the main game and the Season Pass.
Wait a second. Did I just see that the Season Pass for Batman: Arkham Knight is going to be $40 here? Oh wait; it's only $30 extra if you want to buy the Premium Edition for Batman: Arkham Knight. Wait…what? Character skins and challenge maps are cool and all but Rocksteady and Warner Bros. want to charge near to the price of a full game to have six months of "regularly updated" DLC? Holy strawberries Batman…we're in a jam! That better be some level of story missions and those super-villains better be playable. You know, things that would actually be worth close to doubling the price for Batman: Arkham Knight to fully enjoy. For that matter if they think we will all pay for it, why was it not in the core game to begin with?
I as well as anyone know that not everything can make it into a core game at launch. Things like DLC, updates, and patches have made it easier for developers to get the game into gamer's hands while they push out things that had to be cut to meet deadlines but this is almost a whole game's price of cutting room floor for Batman: Arkham Knight. Why did this not make it into the core game given all of the delays? Batman: Arkham City had almost all of the Batman villains in one way or another so why do we have to pay to have said villains mixed into Arkham Knight? Aren't most of them supposed to be there already to help Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight take down Gotham already? Something just isn't adding up here and it is rubbing me the wrong way.
None the less, if you want to experience the full game of Batman: Arkham Knight it looks like you will be spending upwards of $100 for the game. There hasn't been any direct word on if those huge bundles for Batman: Arkham Knight will include the Season Pass as well. I'm sure it will but there is always the chance… If nothing more, I want to be able to run through the city as Killer Croc or Bane destroying things like the Batmobile will be in Batman: Arkham Knight. More than that for the asking price here at that. I guess we'll all find out soon what this will all include exactly.
