Hopefully you read the title correctly so we won't have to look at this as Mortal Kombat X rumor, conjecture, hopes, or any other bullshit that usually goes rampant when a little nugget like this hits the web. What is going on is that during a recent interview with GamerFitNation, Todd McFarlane (the daddy of the Spawn franchise) made claim that NetherRealm could bring Spawn into the Mortal Kombat X franchise. Not only that but it is really up to the studio and publisher if they want to as there has already been a short deal struck between the two.
For more on what that all could mean for Mortal Kombat X and Spawn hooking up let's look at how Mr. McFarlane describes the deal.
"That means that they have access to be able to use the character in a couple of their games, if they want to. Again, it's up to their discretion. I gave them a window of time, so I'll just leave it to them to do what it is that they want. Eventually, they'll phone me and they'll go, 'Hey, we want to use him here. Is that okay?' Well, technically, it's okay because we've already said yes. They just are letting us know." "I don't know if they're ever going to use him. They just might squat on him." |
You can see the full interview in the video below but what news would that be for Mortal Kombat X if Spawn was included. Hells, pun intended, even if he was future DLC for Mortal Kombat X it would be downright awesome. Of course that is the Spawn fan in me screaming out and not the analytic "you know they still have like half the base cast to announce still?" minded being here. I think the character would fit well in the mix if NetherRealm wanted but I can also see the arguments against it when it comes to development.
Spawn would mean a lot of think and figuring on how to bring three versions of him into Mortal Kombat X. Three versions that would work in the game that is as I can already see multiples just from the source materials. Then you have the good point McFarlane makes that the Spawn brand isn't as large as it could be and really needs to be to justify all the work NetherRealm would need to do. He isn't as huge of a character anymore and hasn't been, outside of hardcore fans, for almost a decade. Spawn's inclusion into Mortal Kombat X would definitely be a fan service for a fan base that isn't as large as I would love to think.
Would you be interested in seeing Spawn used in Mortal Kombat X? Would he work as DLC or a platform exclusive? Do you even know who the character is outside of the image and Google searching? Leave those comments and join the discussion.
