Id's Rage Becomes Untethered With A New Trailer & Release Date

Id Software gives us a nice little reminder that their first new IP in over ten years is coming out. That IP being Rage. This new trailer shows off some extremely beautiful landscapes of destruction as well as some promising action scenes. All set to the tune of an original song titled “Burning Jacob’s Ladder” by singer Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, Gutter Twins). The song definitely sets the mood for Rage; dark, ominous and gritty. The three things Id knows best.

The engine behind all this beauty is none other than the Id Tech 5, a powerhouse of a graphics engine rivaled only by the prototype of Skynet. The details in the scenery, down to the individual blades of grass, are magnificent. Not to mention the detail on the characters. They are so crisp and defined. If you look close enough you can see their pores.

A lot of people have been knocking Rage because it looks like a Borderlands rip off. While I do see the similarities, I have to call “Shenanigans.” Borderlands is much more of a light hearted tongue-in-cheek experience while Rage looks and feels much darker and grimmer. Have a bit more faith in the guys who invented the proper first person shooter genre.

Unleash your tethered Rage when it hits store shelves September 13th 2011.
