The Thaumaturge Needs A Little More Time To Cast The Blood Magic On The World

The Thaumaturge

A delay has hit The Thaumaturge and we will have to wait a few months more to see what The Thaumaturge has to offer us all

As with all good blood magic, The Thaumaturge is going to need to take some time to make sure it is all worked out perfectly. That is, it looks like a tough call was made by Fool’s Theory and 11 Bit Studios to push the PC release of the game out once again. The Thaumaturge will no longer be hitting the PC on December 5th and is now set for a February 20th, 2024, release. All of that and with a PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S version of the game coming sometime after all of that. It sucks, for sure, but these things happen and can lead to us having a better experience in the end.

There is no specific reason given for why we are going to have to wait longer for The Thaumaturge to drop, just that it is going to be delayed now. The best guess out there is that it was still too buggy and needed more time for the Q&A to go through it all one more time. That usually is listed as "extra polish" time for those who need something to latch on to. Thankfully, though, it is only a few months and we have so very many titles to keep us entertained as we wait a bit longer for The Thaumaturge to drop out there. It just will not be a very bloody holiday season with this title and we will have to look to others to get our fill of virtual blood into the world. There are a lot of titles that do just that anyway.

Mastering the mystic arts is an ambitious undertaking, and equally so is game development when you refuse to compromise on quality. With this in mind, 11 Bit Studios and Fool’s Theory have mutually decided to give The Thaumaturge some additional time in development to achieve the standards that players have come to expect from them.

Recently announced for a December 5th release, The Thaumaturge will now launch on February 20th, 2024 on PC. As the finishing touches were put on the game over recent weeks, the team saw the opportunity to add more polish and quality, and given they have the comfort to allow themselves some extra time the decision was made to delay.

In this narrative-focused RPG, players take on the role of Wiktor Szulski, a thaumaturge on a quest to make peace with his past. Unfolding in 1905 Warsaw, the story revolves around the complex theme of inner demons and how in this world that can mean more than just a mental burden. In The Thaumaturge, demons are known as Salutors who feed on one's darkest secrets and only the titular thaumaturge has the ability to relieve someone of this burden.

The Thaumaturge will be released on PC on February 20, 2024, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions at a later date.

The Thaumaturge — PC Release Date

I will always harp home that delays are generally good for video games and it should lead to The Thaumaturge being a better title for it. We should never have them try to rush a title out there just because we want something new to play and experience. Then we get trash titles and a lot of backlash that it did not live up to your expectations. Like taking a cake out of the oven early and then complaining it is all still liquid. You cannot have it both ways and I will stick to the camp of delaying The Thaumaturge as being a good thing in the long run. Even if this is not a title that many have been overly hyped for as some of the bigger titles out there. I also have faith that it could be a nice little sleeper hit that we never saw flowing out to us. Even if the console players will need to wait even longer now.

Do you have any strong feelings one way or another for The Thaumaturge getting a bit of a delay? What do you think the main issue is and will a few more rounds of Q&A help make it the title that the teams wanted it to be? How much more does this delay the console version of the game or will that come out shortly after with more of the work put in during this delay? Take to the comments and let the discussion and blood flow. There will be more to update for The Thaumaturge, certainly, so please keep on checking back here for all of those updates and the various others we have to come down the line for it too.
