Review: World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 30th of December 2010 - 06:51 PM ]
Blizzard's World of Warcraft is the current definitive MMO. With six years of collected content, twelve million players, and three expansions, it doesn't look like WoW is going anywhere soon. Blizzard had built an empire, but to strengthen the empire's walls, it would have to rebuild itself from the inside out. For the past six years, in order for a player to reach the cap level of 80, players had to grind through some of the most grueling quests we've seen since Everquest. Kill, collect, rinse, repeat, this was the old scenario until Wrath of the Lich King. Read More...

Review: Splatterhouse
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 16th of December 2010 - 12:20 AM ]
After almost two decades since the last Splatterhouse game released on the Sega Genesis, we finally received a reboot of sorts. Well, it's more along the lines of a retelling - backed by the power of the new technology we only dreamt of way back then. No longer stuck in the basics of side scrolling, we now get to take Rick on a fully 3D roaming adventure. Don't fret though; there are plenty of throwbacks to the original for fans of the franchise to cherish. The story goes as thus: Rick and his girlfriend, Jen, are heading to the creepy mansion of Dr. Read More...

Review: Poker Night At The Inventory
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 3rd of December 2010 - 07:09 PM ]
The guys over at Telltale Games recently released a title called Poker Night At The Inventory, which pits you against some infamous characters from the gaming universe. It's an interesting deviation from your typical Telltale fare like Sam&Max and The Tales Of Monkey Island series. The title is $4.99 on Steam right now, so let's see how it holds up. The game starts in front of a door where you head down a secret elevator leading to an exclusive club: "The Inventory." Here you are greeted by the host who escorts you to a table in the back room for a poker tournament with The Heavy from Team Fortress 2, Strong Bad (nuff said), Tycho from Penny Arcade and Max from Sam&Max. Review: Call Of Duty: Black Ops
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 1st of December 2010 - 09:21 PM ]
We've been through WWII and up to Modern Warfare so now it is time to tackle two "wars" that seem to be glanced over by most FPS franchises. Yea, Call of Duty: Black Ops places us deep in the mix of the Vietnam War and the Bay Of Pigs Invasion all in another attempt to stop the Russians from destroying the U.S. This time they are trying it through chemical warfare and biological warfare. Review: Saw II: Flesh And Blood
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 29th of November 2010 - 07:47 PM ]
Another year and another, and touted as the last, Saw film and a new Saw game to go along with it. Some would say that the whole franchise has been going downhill for a long while now, on the film side, and Saw: The Video Game was not all that well received by gamers. "So why even make a sequel?" is what you have to be thinking. Is it to cash in on the last legs of the franchise? Read More...

Review: DJ Hero 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 18th of November 2010 - 07:50 PM ]
Here we go with another rhythm game coming into the mix of things. Pun totally intended. The game this time is DJ Hero 2. The follow up and expansion on from last year's DJ Hero that let gamers hop into the world of "professional" DJing. Like every other title in the rhythm genre there are some new additions outside of the core track list. Some good, some not so good and some just kind of "What The F**k?" Let me break it all down for you and let you know if you should actually pick up a copy of DJ Hero 2. Read More...

Review: Guardians of Graxia
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 2nd of November 2010 - 11:45 PM ]
Petroglyph Games is one of those companies that you never know exactly what they're going to do next. Coming from a background of RTS video games and making a splash in the CCG/board game market, they are definitely a company to keep an eye on. With their diverse experience, Petroglyph Games have decided to take the best of both worlds and mash them together into a tiny download for about $9.99. They call it Guardians of Graxia. Review: God of War: Ghost of Sparta
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 28th of October 2010 - 09:05 PM ]
Kratos is back yet again to take on the gods for the torment they have put him through. Well kind of. Kratos is back to show the world why he was so pissed at the beginning of God of War 2 - not to mention that finally one of the original storylines for the franchise is brought into the mix. In fact, it is the pivotal point for the whole story this time. The focus revolving around Kratos having a brother that was taken to the Underworld. Read More...

Review: Rock Band 3 [Gamer Version]
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 26th of October 2010 - 08:53 PM ]
So here we go again. Another rhythm game comes to the market, only this time it is one that is truly trying to innovate the genre. I am talking in more ways than just trying to add new ways to play songs in the way of four guitars or adding challenges to earn more points and "stars." Though we already knew that Rock Band 3 was adding in a new instrument and a "Learn To Play Real Instruments" mode, it's how they went about it that changes the genre. This of course makes Rock Band 3 more than just another game. Being that there is so much going on with Rock Band 3, I've decided to break it up into two reviews. Read More...

Review: TerRover
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 21st of October 2010 - 11:06 PM ]
Creat Studios generated a lot of buzz when it showed its downloadable title, TerRover, at E3 this summer. Then when the demo was dropped exclusively for PlayStation Plus members, excitement for the game was off the charts. Sensitive controls and dynamic game play showed the promise of a precision platformer – something the hardcore gaming community can always get behind. TerRover embraces and champions the game design concept of Trial by Death. Trial by Death is the process by which the player acquires knowledge of the game and its systems of control by forging forward without the necessary information to succeed, relying on continuous failure to derive the correct solution. Review: Comic Jumper
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 18th of October 2010 - 10:38 PM ]
Captain Smiley's very own comic has been canceled because it, well, sucked. Lame villains, corny jokes, bad dialog and it pretty much made no sense at all. So what is an unemployed comic book hero to do? Jump into other comics as a mercenary and help solve huge issues that may be going on. All in the hopes to get enough scratch together so Captain Smiley can bring back his own book. I kid you not. Read More...

Review: Enslaved: Odyssey To The West
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 13th of October 2010 - 10:22 PM ]
It is the distant future and just as is assumed in most post-apocalyptic stories, the machines have all but stamped out most of humanity. Those humans still wandering the devastated, in this case, America either spend their time hiding from the still active killing machines or slavers rounding them all up. Two of these survivors being a brilliant technophile nicknamed Trip and "Me Smash" hulk of a man nick named Monkey. Both of whom have been captured and shipped out to the evil Pyramid to be executed or added into the slave population. Read More...

Review: Dead Rising 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 11th of October 2010 - 09:05 PM ]
The zombie outbreak has now overtaken a good portion of the world now. Cites have been destroyed, human life is now precious even more so now yet everyone with a pulse has seemed to come to terms with zompoclypse. In fact, they have come to such great terms that game shows have popped up surrounding the total destruction of all of the infected. The most popular being Terror Is Reality, which has taken up shop in the new city of Fortune City just miles outside of a destroyed Las Vegas, NV. Speaking of Las Vegas, remember the Case Zero Review? Read More...

Review: Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 6th of October 2010 - 04:54 PM ]
In the godly plane of rock, an epic battle rages on. A battle between the Demigod of Rock - a being of all things that are rock - and the horrid, mechanical Beast - a being of everything that apparently sucks in music. Up until now, Gene Simmons the Demigod of Rock has prevailed. That is, up until now when the Beast finally bested the Demigod and locked him away. Now it is up to the chosen eight warriors of rock to come to power and release the Demigod so he can save music from a teenie-bop-emo-crap-storm it will become. Yes, that is the shortened version of the new story mode for Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock, the recent iteration to the Guitar Hero franchise. Read More...
