Review: Darksiders II
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 14th of August 2012 - 05:02 PM ]
It has finally come. A game that I and others here have been waiting for since we finished Darksiders and were left with a bit of a cliff hanging ending. Darksiders II is here and featuring a new horseman of the apocalypse as well as, from what has been said, a whole load of game features that were left on the cutting room floor in the first title. I got a chance to play it, so let me break it down so you can get a feel before you buy. The Story The story picks up obviously after the end of Darksiders. Read More...

Review: Wreckateer
by Matt Waitt [ Tuesday, 31st of July 2012 - 11:03 PM ]
I first got the chance to play Wreckateer at PAX East this year (Back in April) where Iron Galaxy Studios (the developer of the game) were holding a contest. The person who got the highest score on a certain level would win an Xbox 360 bundled with a Kinect. It just so happens that yours truly got the highest score for the weekend and got himself $500 or so worth of merchandise. Now, this does not mean I'm bought out, or have a bias towards this game or its development team. It just means I owe them a review (not really, but I feel obligated to do so) Alright, well let's start off with the game play. Read More...

Mini-Review: The Walking Dead - Episode 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 10th of July 2012 - 08:31 PM ]
I won't be starting with the basics this time. If you want that, check out our review of the first episode of The Walking Dead. That should get you up to speed so you can dive right into episode two. So without further adieu. Story Three months after the events of the first episode Lee and crew are running low on food and supplies. There have been a few new additions to the group as well as a location change. During the drought of food, a few other survivors stumble upon the group and offer food and supplies in exchange for fuel. Read More...

Review: The Amazing Spider-Man
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 6th of July 2012 - 11:12 PM ]
It's summer block buster time again in the film industry which means it's also the time we see the video games that coincide with said block busters hitting the shelves. While Marvel missed out on a proper Avengers title, Beenox and Activision made sure that they didn't miss out on a new Spider-Man title. The pair have already churned out the last couple of rather decent titles for the franchise so why not one for the film. Let's see how their faired in a genre that is usually know for making slop that just milks the films for more money. Read More...

Review: Ship Simulator Extremes
by Fred Buell [ Monday, 2nd of July 2012 - 11:15 PM ]
I started playing Ship Simulator Extremes with an open mind. Partly because I wasn't sure if this was going the pure Sim route with me only free riding a boat or the MS Flight route with a campaign and missions you can take. It took the latter with a campaign and various scenarios you can choose from the menu, alas the game is looking up, I think. I was wrong. So wrong. Read More...

Indie Game Of The Month: A Valley Without Wind
by Fred Buell [ Thursday, 28th of June 2012 - 06:33 PM ]
For all those lovers of classic action games or side scrolling RPGs; look no further than A Valley Without Wind. When I spoke with the developers from Arcen Games at PAX East last April, they had said they loved the old 2D actioners like Super Metroid, Castlevania and so on. They said the one thing they hate about those games is 'they end.' A Valley Without Wind plays just like the aforementioned games with a hint of MMO and one huge difference. It doesn’t end and the maps a randomly generated. Read More...

Review: Sorcery
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 27th of June 2012 - 04:55 PM ]
Sorcery was shown to all of us over two years ago at E3 as a "tech demo" of sorts to show off the cool things that Sony had in store for us with motion gaming. It was the first real "wow" thing for the Move and then it kind of went silent. Then it popped back into existence all of a sudden to try and sell more of the controllers that were losing their steam in a market that doesn't really want motion controls. But does that mean that this is just some slopware? Well keep reading if you wish to know. Read More...

Review: Diablo III
by Matt Waitt [ Wednesday, 23rd of May 2012 - 06:41 PM ]
After almost eleven years since the release of Diablo II, Blizzard's epic dungeon crawling franchise is finally back. Diablo III takes place twenty years after the events of Diablo II and its expansion "Lord of Destruction" in the world of Sanctuary. After picking one of the five classes (I'll touch on those later) you start your journey off in "New Tristram" which is not too far from the original Tristram (which you will be visiting in Act 1). Your character is in search of "The Fallen Star" which happened to crash into the Tristram cathedral. We soon find out that Decard Cain and his niece Leah were in the cathedral at the time, and Leah gives us the task to find her uncle and save Tristram from the living dead (who happened to rise again due to the power of the fallen star). Review: Sniper Elite V2
by Fred Buell [ Tuesday, 1st of May 2012 - 06:15 PM ]
Rebellion Developments just gave us a "reboot" or "remake" of the 2005 shooter of the same name, Sniper Elite: V2 which takes place in the same time frame. This time rather than infiltrating the Nazi Army in disguise, you are a lone sniper against both the German and Russian WW2 militaries. Referencing the real life "Operation Paper," you must sneak behind lines and kill, or rescue, German scientists from creating and launching deadly V2 rockets. The game plays very smoothly; only on few occasions, and probably at my provoking the system, did I experience any spots of being stuck or absurd clipping. Sniper Elite plays as you would hope and expect any 3rd person shooter to play. Read More...

Review: Journey
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 7th of March 2012 - 10:16 PM ]
Before I go on, let me make it clear this is a review for the 2012 video game Journey and not the band of the same name. Don't need the confusion. Anyway, here we go with thatgamecompany's next title hitting the PSN. They've made huge waves with flOw and Flower and here they try again with Journey. Though, you don't need a full history lesson here. You need to know if you should drop your cash here so let's just get down to it. Story You take the role of a weird "robed" figure, which seems to be made completely out of said robes, that is on a journey to the top of a glowing mountain. Read More...

Review: Twisted Metal
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 22nd of February 2012 - 06:01 PM ]
So it has been quite some time since most of the fans of Twisted Metal have received a sequel, reboot or whatever to the franchise. That last title coming out almost four years ago on the PS2 so it was about time to bring one Sony's biggest, and in my opinion one of the best, to the next gen hardware. This is just what they did. So how did this franchise hold up and is it worth picking up? Read More...

Review: AMY
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 27th of January 2012 - 08:13 PM ]
It's January so it is about time for a new survival horror title to come out, am I right? Well here is AMY from VectorCell - a new survival horror downloadable title for us to start the new year with a scare. Question is: will it scare the digital funds out of your wallet or just make you fearful that you will be out a few bucks for something that falls flat? Well let me give you my break down of the game. The Story In typical survival horror style, the tale revolves around two characters who must survive what looks like the zompocalypse. Read More...

Review: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 2nd of January 2012 - 02:17 AM ]
I'm not one for re-makes or "re-imagining" when it comes to video games. I think that it shows a lack of innovation in the industry when developers should really be pushing forward. It is how I feel and there won't be much changing of my mind in this area. So you could only imagine how I felt when I heard that Just Add Water was "upgrading" Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath to be a whole new HD version. Why "upgrade" instead of make something new for the developer? Now that I have that out of the way, just like when God Of War got the HD treatment, I see why they chose to do this six years later. Review: Saints Row: The Third
by Matt Waitt [ Tuesday, 6th of December 2011 - 05:15 PM ]
As I'm writing this I'm still picking off the fragments of my skull and brains from my walls. Where do I begin with Saints Row: The Third The over-the-top everything in the game? The hilarious story? The endless hours of mind numbing fun? Or maybe I should start with an anecdote? Yeah let's start off with a quick little anecdote. Alright, let's go back in time ten years. Queue cliché movie transition. Read More...

Review: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 21st of November 2011 - 05:50 PM ]
Well, it's that time of year again. Leaves are falling. It's getting colder. And like clockwork, a new Call Of Duty has hit the streets. Not that I should really have to say it, but that would be Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for those who didn't see the title or clicked in at random. That also means it is time for us to review this little title and see if it should be a game you add to your home collection. The Story Everything picks back up right after Modern Warfare 2. If you recall, those crazy Russians are still running amok and fucking up everyone's good time. Read More...
