Is Digital Distribution the Future?
by Ben Brody [ Monday, 9th of November 2009 - 09:51 PM ]
It's fairly safe that we can all assume that the future of movies and game sales is digital distribution. How long the duration will be for it to take over is anybody's guess. It will be more determined by the willingness of people to download a game as opposed to having a physical copy than anything else. Delivery systems like GameTap, Direct2Drive and most notably Steam, have been digitally distributing PC games for years and have been met with success. It seems as though PC players are more willing to buy digital distribution than their console counterparts -- maybe because it's been available longer and they feel more comfortable with it or maybe it's because they don't care about having a physical copy since they can not trade it in anyhow. Nintendo DLC For The Week Of 11/2/09
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 2nd of November 2009 - 06:34 PM ]
When I looked at the list of downloadable content this week for Nintendo, I was shocked to see eight titles listed for the three "platforms" available. For so long, the Big 'N' was releasing one title a week on each platform: WiiWare, DSiWare and Virtual Console. Many people, including myself, asked why Nintendo was holding back, especially in light of the fact that first party titles haven't exactly been busting down retail doors in a short period of time. Unfortunately, when looking at what the public received, you begin to understand why the big push. Looking at the DSiWare selections this week, your attention is drawn immediately to the first party photo application, Sparkle Snapshots. Read More...

Interview With Vandal Hearts: Ryan Graff
by Binh Nguyen [ Monday, 2nd of November 2009 - 04:20 PM ]
It's been sometime since we heard anything from Konami about their Tactical Role-Playing Game Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment. It was rumored before that the game was going to be a remake of the PlayStation version of Vandal Hearts and was going to be released for the Nintendo DS. Well that is not the case as we were managed to get an interview from Ryan Graff, Vandal Hearts: Flame of Judgment Original Concept Writer, to answer some questions that we all have been wondering. Q: Why it has taken almost 10 years to get another Vandal Hearts game out. A: Needless to say, 10 years is a long time in the game business, and in that time, much of the original Vandal Hearts team has moved on. Read More...

Double Fine Studio’s has collaborated with Harmonix and MTV's Rock Band to release three new DLC tracks with the Brütal Legend theme, and they are hot like lightning! Joe Satriani - "Satch Boogie" Joe Satriani - "Surfing with the Alien" Kansas - "Icarus (Borne on the Wings of Steel)" Kansas - "Point of Know Return" L7 - "Andres" Tim Schafer, who is as much a metal head as your friend in the “Lemmy is god” shirt, had this to say in the current press release: "These are three great songs that totally capture the feeling of Brütal Legend. I can't wait to play them in Rock Band," Tim Schafer said "I've air-drummed to all of them so many times, I'm sure I'll be able to beat them on hard mode, no problem. Read More...

Rock Band Is Changing Now
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 6th of October 2009 - 11:42 AM ]
You can all stop begging Harmonix to get your music on their insanely popular game now. In fact now you need to start bugging the artists and record label to get off their asses. Or even that awesome garage band next store. Just gone live today are the documentation and tools needed to use Harmonix's Rock Band Network. Well the plugins to allow for you to create the music and upload to the XBox Live, as that is the platform for the current release. This is going to change the game in a drastic way I think. Valve Releases Free Crash Course DLC
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 29th of September 2009 - 11:36 PM ]
Today Valve released Crash Course, the next big free* DLC for their immensely popular Left4Dead franchise. Ben went into what it's all about back here, but the the gist is that between No Mercy and Death Toll, the helicopter that rescued you on top of the hospital went down and now our survivors are no longer safe. They must keep moving to stay alive. On top of the co-operative and survival modes for this campaign the versus mode includes a 30-minute limit to speed things along. Read More...

Batman Brings More Darkness To The UK
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 23rd of September 2009 - 01:30 PM ]
The minds at Eidos and behind Batman Arkham Asylum just don't give up. Last week with the Insane Night Map Pack and now this week with the Prey in the Darkness Map Pack. Well at least this week if you live in the United Kingdom or are willing to download across country lines. At least this is all according to the press release that was sent out about this new map. Hopefully it will be a globally released thing. In any instance, these two new challenges sound just as amazing as the last two that were released. Read More...

Nintendo DLC For The Week Of 9/21/09
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 22nd of September 2009 - 01:39 PM ]
Another week of download releases by Nintendo means another week of low-hanging fruit for criticism on the choices for DSiWare downloads. Also included in this week is another Commodore 64 game for Virtual Console. At this point, I wish there was a defensible position to take on some of these choices for DLC. We have five releases this week across the three platforms. The lone Virtual Console title, Last Ninja 2, is from the Commodore 64. Read More...

Batman Goes Totally Insane
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 14th of September 2009 - 11:02 PM ]
There is no denying that Batman: Arkham Asylum is an awesome game. It is what a Batman game should be. I don't think anyone could deny that. At least without getting spammed and flamed on every gaming site out there. I smell attention whoring out there now that I mentioned that. In any instance, the core game didn't end the whole experience for gamers who loved this game. There were the challenge maps after all was said and done. 16 of them for Batman if you completed a good chunk of the Riddle's riddles. Read More...

Nintendo DLC for the Week of 8/24
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 24th of August 2009 - 06:17 PM ]
For the first time in more than a few weeks, Nintendo's weekly release of downloadable content (DLC) has spiked my interest. Believe me, this is for just more than a Star Wars game. Though I cannot play it myself, as I do not own a DSi, it finally looks like someone may have released a game on the DSiWare service that may be worth the DSi Points spent. Pop+ Solo for 500 DSi Points, from the screens and videos, looks like an excellent bite-size value for $5. Small and portable, the game fits into the kind of lifestyle you would expect from a DSiWare game you would always have on hand. Read More...

Beatles: Rock Band DLC Albums and Pricing Announced
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 19th of August 2009 - 09:16 PM ]
At Gamescon in Cologne, Harmonix announced which full albums will be available as DLC for Beatles: Rock Band in 2009. They also revealed the pricing structure and some extras you'll receive. This on the heels of yesterday's reveal of 19 of the last 20 songs on the disc. I would normally say that the 1360 Microsoft points (roughly $17) for an entire album and the typical 160 Microsoft points ($2) per song may turn off the owners of this game, but I would be wrong. I know how wrong by the fact that upon reading the press release, I balked at the number then quickly followed up with, "yeah, I'll probably buy it anyway." Beatles fans have been waiting for something like this since plastic guitars began filling up living rooms. Read More...
