Greatest Hits? Really?

Let me ask you a question, am I the only one that isn't a fan of greatest hits albums from bands? Compilations of songs that I already own but the band thinks that they are the best of their collection and need to make another CD of just these songs. Making the need to shell out more cash to pick up songs a new disk that I already paid good hard cash for. How does this make sense in a world? Really?

Well much like the artists on the games they make, it would seem Activision is going to try and milk fans of Guitar Hero in just the same manner. Not only with their own iterations of the franchise, but even the first two that were done up by an other developer.

As the trailer/advertisement below shows, the next Guitar Hero due out in about 2 months is going to have 40+ tracks of the songs that THEY think are the best songs from the games. All for the nice price of a new game for [insert console here]. Now I ask, how does think make any sense at all? Also, how do they think that they are going to be able to milk fans like this without causing a sensation?

Personally, I think this is a load of crap that they are trying to do to gamers just so they can make a buck. I am also of the mind set that they should look to the competition, as they have with the evolution of their game, and make it so that gamers don't have to buy rehashed version of old games to enjoy them in one spot. They could have easily made it so that anyone could import songs from past disks into the new just like DLC, but then they wouldn't be able to milk another $40-$60 I guess. People where upset when they found they had to drop $5 to import all of their Rock Band 1 Disc songs into Rock Band 2, how do you think they will react if they need to drop much more to have their old songs in one spot? Really I say?

But on the plus side, it will be a place to try out Through The Fire And Flames mixed with a little Free Bird. Something I would pay dearly for, just not the price of a new game.

NOTE: Yes, I do understand that these songs are being made available for full band to play not just Bass/Guitar, but that doesn't change my opinion on the milking.
